Sharjah Police Cancels 7,000 Traffic Fines in 2025 | Major Relief for Motorists
Sharjah Police Cancels 7,000 Traffic Fines: In a significant and proactive move, Sharjah Police has announced that it has cancelled over 7,000 traffic fines, benefitting hundreds of motorists in the Emirate. This initiative reflects the authority’s commitment to community support and road safety, and forms part of a wider programme led by the Sharjah Executive Council.
The cancellation scheme applies to traffic violations that have remained unpaid for more than 10 years from the date of offence. Eligible individuals can submit an application for cancellation and, in most cases, pay a fixed fee of AED 1,000 to clear their long-standing fines.
What Sharjah Police cancels 7,000 traffic fines Mean
For many residents who had accumulated fines from years ago, this initiative offers much-needed relief. According to data disclosed by Sharjah Police, the scheme has so far cleared more than 7,000 traffic fines, benefiting 284 people to date.
The move is designed to support motorists in resolving old debts and enhance public trust in traffic enforcement processes. By offering a pathway to clear unpaid fines, Sharjah Police is promoting better compliance and a fresh start for many drivers.
Eligibility and Process
The scheme is available to motorists whose traffic violations are 10 years old or more, as defined by the Executive Council’s decision. Applicants must visit the Traffic & Licensing Service Centres at Sharjah Police, submit the request, pay the cancellation fee of AED 1,000, and meet eligibility criteria.
Certain cases qualify for exemption from the fee altogether including instances where the vehicle owner has passed away, has emigrated and stayed out of the UAE for 10 continuous years, or the vehicle has been abandoned and the owner untraceable.
Why This Matters
This decision is more than financial relief, it also demonstrates the authority’s broader focus on road safety, fairness, and community support. By clearing old violations, Sharjah Police is resetting outstanding cases and streamlining the traffic system. The directive complements other reforms such as discounts for fine payments made within 60 days (35 %) or within one year (25 %).
For motorists, the offer clears the slate of older violations, removes administrative burden, and restores eligibility for services such as vehicle registration or renewal previously blocked by outstanding fines.
How to Take Advantage
If you believe you may qualify for the scheme:
- Check your traffic fine history via the official Sharjah Police or Traffic & Licensing portal.
- If violations are more than 10 years old, visit a Traffic & Licensing centre and apply for cancellation.
- Pay the flat fee of AED 1,000 for eligible cases (unless you meet exemption criteria).
- After approval, clear outstanding violation records and proceed with any vehicle renewal or related services.
Sharjah Police encourages motorists to use this opportunity to resolve legacy penalties and comply with traffic rules going forward, promoting safer roads and service efficiency.

A Step Toward Better Road Discipline
By implementing the programme, Sharjah Police sends a clear message: while penalties remain important, the Emirate also values renewal, rehabilitation, and a fair approach to long-standing cases. Clearing over 7,000 fines showcases the tangible impact of the policy.
This is part of a larger vision by Sharjah authorities to maintain effective enforcement while offering responsible drivers a second chance aligning with the goals of improved road behaviour, fewer unpaid fines, and a modern traffic management system.
